Post subject:  Account Security

Wanted to make players aware of another way they can protect their account.

Its pretty common for servers databases (especially accounts) to be compromised, They are sold/shared on online forums to popular sites quite often. Then people use these databases of compromised accounts to scam peoples items and sell them for real life money.

You may think, what does this have to do with L2 Equanimity? Why do i care about those other servers. Is L2 Equanimity safe? Yes we are safe at this time, but there is something else to take into consideration.

The majority of players use the same account names and passwords on multiple servers. For example you might have your account name l2player95 and your password yoGGie&Bear. Then you try 5 different servers in one day, you make your account information the same for each one. Then one of those servers you tried you happen to like and you stay there for a while.

Sometime down the road one of those (many) servers especially the bigger ones, can, and have been compromised. Then even if you don't play there anymore, your information is technically compromised on other servers, especially on ours. We have been around for such a long time it in fact makes its us more vulnerable in this way (through other servers). This month is our 8 year anniversary, congrats to us btw!

If you have used the same information on other servers, or think you may have, it would be a good idea to change your password.

If you don't know how, here is a guide: http://www.l2equanimity.com/pages/chang ... ssword.php

Its also a good idea to double check the email you have attached, you can update it with this guide: http://www.l2equanimity.com/pages/attach_an_email.php.

Even if you forget your password, as long as you have access to the email you attached to your account, you can reset your password.

So if you have been scammed before, and you really didn't share your account with anyone, this may be the reason why.

Feel free to discuss :)

Bumping this topic.

Seems like a lot of people have not read about this or understand it, so i am trying to make people more aware.

If you have used the same account name or password or something similar on another server, your account is vulnerable.

Its highly suggested you change your password and make the new password have lower case, upper case, numbers and symobls and it be at least 10 characters long. You can also use something like this: https://passwordsgenerator.net/ to generate random passwords.

People make scripts to do brute force attacks as well to try to guess your information, even if we have things that stop them from trying over and over, they can set up their programs to only try once an hour, they will eventually be able to crack your password if its simple enough.

I am even offering free login id (account name) changes, just contact me at balls006@hotmail.com with your login id and contact me from the email attached to your account to verify it's the proper owner.
